“You just need to stop in the Centre to feel it. These are authentic people, real people, and you’ve got to know that you’re helping real people.”

~ John deC. Evans, honorary chair

Leave a legacy

Legacy gifts take several different forms

Gifts through your will, publicly traded securities, life insurance and retirement funds are just some of the ways you and your family can create lasting change for those in our community with complex health and social needs.

If you have chosen to support the Dr. Peter Centre in your estate plans, please let us know about your gift as it will help us respect your gift intention, honour your legacy and inspire others to follow your example.

Donate securities

Maximize your tax benefits

Donating securities allows you to support specialized health care for clients at the Dr. Peter Centre while maximizing tax benefits.

Gifts of securities (such as shares, stocks, bonds, or units in a mutual fund trust) can be used to reduce your taxes due to capital gains or losses.

If you transfer securities that have realized capital gains to the Dr. Peter Centre as a donation, you will not be taxed on the capital gain and you will also receive a charitable tax receipt for the fair market value of the securities that you can then use to reduce your taxes.

If you transfer securities that have incurred capital losses, you can apply the loss to reduce your taxes on capital gains realized in the past three years and you also receive a charitable tax receipt that can be applied this year or within the next four years.

Contact your financial advisor for more information on capital gains and losses

Please note that a tax receipt will be issued for the value of the securities upon receipt by the Foundation, which may differ from the value at the time of transfer.

You can also donate securities anonymously via CanadaHelps.
