In keeping with our mission to provide Comfort Care for people living with HIV/AIDS, the Day Health Program offers a range of care, support, and access to basic living amenities for individuals who live independently.
Nursing Care
By developing therapeutic, trusting relationships with participants, nurses are able to promote health and healthy behaviour through comprehensive nursing services. Service delivery is based on a model of self-care that encourages participants to be the "experts in their own care".
Food & Nutrition Counselling
Food and Nutritional Services staff provide wholesome, home-style, nutrient-dense meals and snacks. Staff also offer education and nutritional counselling to people living with HIV/AIDS so that they can make informed decisions that affect their health and well being.
Counselling & Psychotherapy
The Counselors promote and contribute to the psychological well-being and healing of Dr. Peter Centre participants. By developing meaningful and supportive relationships, individuals who typically struggle with multiple issues apart from HIV (i.e. addiction, poverty, mental illness, grief, abuse) are encouraged to recognize and develop the strengths and resources to become active in the community.
Therapies
With a focus on developmental care, the Therapies Department provides several comprehensive services; Therapeutic Recreation including community field trips and leisure interest consultation; Music Therapy focused on music fundamentals and socialization; and Complementary Therapies including acupuncture, chiropractic massage, reiki, meditation and shiatsu.
Basic Living Needs
Day Health Participants have access to laundry facilities and showers as well as support in acquiring housing.
