CLEANER - Downtown Vancouver

Position Type: Casual (This is an on-call position)

The Dr. Peter Centre is an HIV/AIDS day health program and 24-hour care residence. The majority of clients also struggle with a range of concurrent disorders, including substance use and psychiatric diagnoses. The Recreation Therapy department is part of a multidisciplinary team that works in accordance with the principles of self-empowerment, harm reduction and the therapeutic community model.

Position Description:

The Cleaner is responsible for a variety of heavy cleaning duties such as wet mopping, scrubbing, waxing & polishing floors; washing wall, windows and ceilings.

Duties:

  • Cleans areas such as floors and stairways by methods such as wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping, sealing, waxing, buffing and polishing.
  • Washes areas such as walls, windows, ceilings, air vents and ducts; steam cleans times such as waste receptacles and dietary carts.
  • Transports heavy furniture and/or equipment manually and/or using aids such as dollies and carts.
  • Clears snow from walkways and building entrances.
  • Maintains related equipment by cleaning, lubricating and replacing items such as filter bags and belts.
  • Provides relief for Building Maintenance as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to organize work
  • Ability to operate related equipment

Qualifications:

  • Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Building Service Worker Certificate
  • W.H.M.I.S. Certificate
  • Recognized training certification in use of ladders, pressure washing, floor machines and steam cleaners
