Maxine graduated from Memorial University with a BA (Social Work) in 1973. Her professional career has been in community health care. From the early ’70s, Maxine held various positions with the Vancouver Health Department (now Vancouver Coastal Health). While serving as Assistant Director-Continuing Care, she was the Department’s representative on the inter-agency steering committee which developed the Dr. Peter Centre concept.
In 1996, the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation invited Maxine to join the organization to oversee implementation of its first service, the Day Health Program. In 1997, she became the Foundation’s Executive Director and, since that time, has led in furthering its Comfort Care mission.
Maxine has contributed to numerous local and provincial health care planning initiatives, including the establishment of supervised injections services. For a number of years, she was Co-Chair, Vancouver HIV/AIDS Care Co-ordinating Committee. Maxine describes her work at the Dr. Peter Centre as the most profoundly life-enriching experience of her career.
