A Special Stocking Stuffer from a Classmate of Dr. Peter
A few short years before he joined The Oppenheimer Group, BC’s oldest company, John Anderson was a classmate of Peter Jepson-Young (who became Dr. Peter) at Balmoral High School in North Vancouver. Now, John Anderson is the chairman, president and CEO of the international fresh produce marketer and distributor, and he recently arranged a meaningful gift for Dr. Peter Centre clients.
Many people who grew up in Western Canada remember discovering a mandarin orange in the toe of their stocking at Christmas. The Oppenheimer Group, which began importing this fruit in 1891, has helped cultivate the tradition ever since. So when the mandarins the company donated were served to Dr. Peter Centre clients in December, spirits rose as many recalled happy memories.
“The Dr. Peter Centre is doing important work in our community,” says Mr. Anderson. “We were pleased to provide the mandarins over the holidays because we know how special they are to people who remember them from their childhood. We are also looking forward to donating fruits and vegetables each month throughout 2012.”
The Oppenheimer Group donation will entail a wide assortment of fresh, seasonal produce, including apples, blueberries, grapes, peppers, pears, potatoes and more.
