On April 20, John deC. Evans, the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation received a British Columbia Community Achievement Award.

John received this prestigious award in recognition of his leadership in the business community and for his extensive volunteer work with the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation and many other not-for-profit organizations.

John has been a long time champion of the Foundation. In the late 1990s, he co-chaired the Capital Campaign to raise funds for the Dr. Peter Centre’s current building. John has been the Chair of the Board of the Foundation since 2007.

We wish to congratulate John and thank him for everything he has done for the Dr. Peter Centre!

On March 23, the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation hosted visitors from the M∙A∙C AIDS Fund and M∙A∙C Cosmetics. The M∙A∙C AIDS Fund has been a generous supporter of the Foundation since the Dr. Peter Centre opened in 1997 and staff from M∙A∙C Cosmetics regularly volunteer their time and talents at the Dr. Peter Centre. Most recently, the M∙A∙C AIDS Fund has provided crucial funding for the Dr. Peter Centre’s Foot Care Clinic and the Women’s Outreach Program.

For the second year in a row, the Dr. Peter Centre hosted an Emily Carr University of Art and Design course entitled the Ethics of Representation.

Through the course, Emily Carr students and Dr. Peter Centre clients accompany each other on a creative journey – offering the opportunity for each to learn from the other as they develop collaborative art. This year, the students and clients exhibited their work at two different galleries. Dr. Peter Centre client Murray worked with Emily Carr student Jacklyn Harris to develop a logo for Murray’s recycling initiative.

Upon seeing the final result, Murray said: “I had a tear in my eye because someone could actually see my passion and turn it into reality.” For his project, Dr. Peter Centre client Anthony wanted to explain the role that the Dr. Peter Centre has played in his life, as quoted below.

"The Dr. Peter Centre has in all areas of my life become a positive step toward a meaningful existence most evident in the reuniting of me and my daughter and my son.”  —Anthony
