Dear Friends,
This September brings many new opportunities for the Dr. Peter Centre.
From September 10 - 17th, I have the privilege of representing the centre in Shanghai, China. I will be joining representatives from Douglas College and presenting a paper on non-governmental organizations (NGO's) in Canada at the Shanghai Administrative Institute's international academic symposium on 'Pushing Forward the Construction of Harmonious Society and Community'. China is most interested in the role of NGOs in civil society and the Dr. Peter Centre is being profiled. This is an exciting opportunity to share the centre's model of Comfort Care with an influential group that has a real chance of making a difference in AIDS care in China. I'll look forward to reporting back.
Sunday, September 18th is our signature fundraising evening Passions II. Last year's event was a ravishing success. This year, in addition to adding more chefs to the plate, we have secured fabulous auction packages for almost anything you're passionate about — gardening, travel, fashion. And to send the bidding to a new level of frenzy, we've added a sentimental item!
The new Board of Directors for the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation 2004/2005 has officially started. We're pleased to welcome two new members to the table - Deborah Money MD, FRCSC, Head, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, University of British Columbia, and Bruce Orr, President of Orr Development. For more details on the direction this year will take, view our 2004/2005 annual report.
Best wishes to you for these last few days of summer. We hope you'll join us at Passions II and throughout the year with your support.
Sincerely,
Maxine Davis
Executive Director
