Comfort Care:
Planning for the Future
Maxine Davis
Executive Director,
Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation
The Dr. Peter Centre wraps up its fiscal year on March 31st. It has been a successful year. We set our annual giving sights higher to maximize Comfort Care in the new and larger centre and, thanks to your generosity, we will reach the goal for 2004/2005 of raising $476,000!
I am pleased to say that with these funds more people than ever received Comfort Care at the Dr. Peter Centre. The day health program had over 20,000 visits and served over 36,000 meals, and over 50 individuals received 24-hour nursing care in the residence.
The reality going forward to 2005/2006 is that in BC more people than ever are increasingly ill with AIDS. The Dr. Peter Centre is the only HIV/AIDS day health program and 24-hour care residence in B.C. Consequently, more people are looking to the Centre for more care.
To date, we have already stretched the administrative structure and staffing with the expansion in the new building. We have coped with the increased costs for more food, activities for residents and day health participants, nursing supplies, toiletries, socks and underwear, and so on.
Our plan for 2005/06 is to meet the growing need for HIV/AIDS care in our communities as well as prepare the organization for the future by increasing our annual giving goal to nearly $1 million.
We are expanding our donor relations capacity in order to achieve this undertaking. We’ve also asked government for core funding so the day health program can be open on weekends. I hope the Dr. Peter Centre can count on you to help us continue this work.
Until there is a cure, let us work together
to provide Comfort Care.
Maxine Davis has been the Executive Director of the Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation since 1997. Maxine describes her work at the Dr. Peter Centre as the most profoundly life-enriching experience of her career.
